Career and Professional Development

It is never too early to explore options for your career after graduation. The Graduate School at UMD has an extensive Professional and Career Development site.

Resources that can be accessed at this site include the PhD Career Navigator, PhD Career Planning and Exploration Tools, Workshops, and many more. For more information about resources and events, call 301-405-8236 or sign up for an appointment in Careers for Terps (C4T).

The International Student & Scholar Services office (ISSS) has some career activities that are geared specifically towards international students.

Many professional societies have sites for career and professional development, including searchable job listings.

  • American Chemical Society
  • American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB)
  • The Biophysical Society
  • American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)
    • Careers in STEM
    • The AAAS site has a link to the MyIDP Individual Development Plan tool. MyIDP enables you to explore different types of careers and helps you to decide which career options might be right for you. You can set up an account and go back to the site repeatedly as your experiences and goals may change over time.
