New Approaches to Optical Spectroscopy: From Satellites to Combs to Microsensors
Speaker: Dr. David Long, NIST
Host: Dr. Amy Mullin, UMCP
Abstract: I will discuss our recent work towards novel methods for optical spectroscopy. These efforts include a variety ultrasensitive, cavity-enhanced methods in support of global greenhouse gas remote sensing. In addition, I will discuss approaches for the generation of optical frequency combs and their use in a wide range of applications including molecular and atomic spectroscopy as well as physical metrology. Finally, I will describe the use of these combs to interrogate optomechanical sensors for high accuracy, chip-scale accelerometry.
