Alpha Chi Sigma (AXΣ)
University of Maryland Alpha Rho Chapter: Alpha Chi Sigma is the only professional chemistry fraternity in existence. Founded December 11, 1902 at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Alpha Chi Sigma has since grown to fifty-three thousand members nationally. We are a coeducational fraternity, bringing together men and women to support the fraternity’s three primary objects:
- To bind its members with a tie of true and lasting
friendship. - To strive for the advancement of chemistry both as a
science and as a profession. - To aid its members by every honorable means in the
attainment of their ambitions as chemists throughout their mortal lives.

American Chemical Society University of Maryland at College Park Student Affiliate Chapter: Our organization seeks to promote networking among students, faculty, and professionals in the field of chemistry, chemical engineering, and the overall physical sciences.
NOBCChE Chapter
National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE)-UMD Chapter: Our organization is dedicated to building an eminent cadre of people of color in science and technology In pursuit of this mission NOBCChE initiates and supports local, regional, national, and global programs that assist people of color in fully realizing their potential in academic, professional, and entrepreneurial pursuits in chemistry, chemical engineering, and related fields.
ASBMB Chapter
American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) UMD Student Affiliates Chapter: Our organization's mission is to promote the overall goals of the national organization by hosting seminars with guest speakers (e.g., physicians, biologists, biochemists, professors, employers, government officials, etc.), organizing networking and community outreach events, and sending members to the national ASBMB meetings.
Graduate Student Organization (GSO)
Our organization of graduate students that assists with departmental functions, seminars, and hosting social events to bring the faculty, staff, and students together as a community. In recent years, the GSO has focused on professional development events for the graduate student body as part of a concerted effort with the department to enable student success after graduation.
